Oil Paintings
Shortly after I got married in 1985 I found a television show that featured an artist named William (Bill)  Alexander http://www.alexanderart.com. He was by no means a "classical" painter. Besides being quite excentric, and entertaining as well, he painted in what seemed like a simple and logical manner. It was not quite as involved as classic styles of painting and the finished works were beautiful! After watching his show for about a month or two I decided I should give this a try.

I didn't have any oils but my wife had some acrylics. Let me cut to the chase now. You are not going to paint like Mr. Alexander using acrylics. The oils he uses stay wet for days and this is what makes his technique work. By now I was also watching Bob Ross, http://www.bobross.com/ who painted with the same method, but was excentric in his own way.

After stumbling through a few acrylic paintings I knew I needed to get oils. That Christmas Mom got me a gift certificate to my favorite hobby supply store and I stocked up. It was like a new world opened up to me. Everything worked much easier and my paintings were starting to look like they should. Since then I have sold a few paintings, been asked to do a few paintings as gifts, given a painting as a wedding gift, and others are displayed in our home.

The very first oil painting I ever did I sold for $50 without a frame in 1992. The buyer then had me paint a covered bridge over a river as a gift for her mother. I need to scan the photo of that first painting, when I find it again. In the meantime here are other paintings I have done. CLICK on them to see them fullsized.
